Sky Adventure: Siblings’ Cebu Trip 1 of 3 24 August 2009

Filed under: swing around, tasty treats — isay @ 1:04 am

Val’s sisters together with their boyfriend took the last flight from Bacolod to Cebu last August 10. They came for a vacation while Val was still in Cebu to save their board and lodging and while we still have the car. The room was spacious enough to occupy 6 persons; they brought an airbed, extra foam and beddings, too.

There were no concrete plans to tour Cebu. Since 3 of them had toured Cebu several times already, we decided to try the Edge Coaster ride in Crown Regency Hotel in the heart of Cebu City. The Edge Coaster and Skywalk Extreme were featured in tv the first time it opened last year and I wanted to try them since then. It was scary to ride it honestly. I got goose bumps for the thought of riding the whole edge of the 38th floor but I still found myself excited to give it a try.

We were directed to the 19th floor of the hotel to register for the rides. Prices vary during peak and off-peak days not to mention peak and off-peak hours. It was a Tuesday so we luckily got the off-peak price. Then, we took a different elevator to the 38th floor.

An entrance fee of Php 380 only allows you to view the decks – 38th floor for the Edge Coaster and 37th floor for the Skywalk. We were instructed to take the stairs down to the 37th floor. Just nearby the Edge Coaster is the Sky Observatory where you can view the city with coin-operated binoculars or just enjoy the breathtaking view by the Sky Bar.

For Php 500, you can choose from riding the Edge Coaster or just enjoy the sky experience in Skywalk. The price doubles if you want to experience both. It sounds costly, though, but the best option they have is the eat-all-you-can at their Sky Restaurant named Sparkz offered with a free ride of Edge Coaster or Skywalk, including an entrance in the Sky Observatory and Sky Bar, for only Php 600. Remember to ask the receptionist for this buffet+ride option since it wasn’t offered to us until we inquired for it. We only knew it from Val’s friend who already tried it.

Except for May, we all got coward upon seeing the height of the hotel which is the tallest building in Cebu City. However, we were greatly awed by the breathtaking view from the top. After 30 minutes of convincing one another, we finally chose to ride the Edge Coaster.

Cellphones, cameras, bags, etc. are not allowed once inside the Edge Coaster or Skywalk area. After the 10-minute or so ride, photos can be claimed per piece or per CD. The former costs around Php 200 a piece while the latter costs Php 350 per CD with all the photos. In our case, each pair has 7 shots only and they won’t burn all our photos combined in one disc. I was disappointed upon seeing the photos they burned because it was taken in a low resolution contrary to the 6- and 10-megapixels we usually took. I was expecting I could have some photos printed in a 4×6 size or higher.

The Edge Coaster has a five-second automatic forward tilt and you can choose to have it remained inclined up to 55 degrees in the whole ride. The tilt was really scary and I almost closed my eyes but I forgot my fear of height after seeing the beautiful view up there. Believe me, you’ll feel secured and just enjoy the fun ride and the magnificent view.

Try it while it’s new! :)

We then gorged at the Sparkz – the Sky Restaurant. On one side were Japanese dishes while on the other side were Filipino dishes. The buffet was not complete without the desserts – from cakes to fruits. Pano kept going back to the halo-halo area. By 7 pm, we were serenaded by a male band playing cool country songs. We could have stayed until 10 pm listening to their songs but we were in a hurry to go to Savemore before it closed to buy the things and foods needed the next day.

beautiful shots Er, I especially like the night shots. wonder how you insert pictures from multiply, it would be less work for me if i know how to do it :)

    thanks, ms beth.

when you use multiply, there is a “share” link below the photo. it will bring you the next page which shows the share via emails or share options and you can select “embed photo” or “embed album” or simply copy the link. the embed is in html format. in wordpress where you compose your post, you can select html tab then paste the embed link and go back to visual tab. hope this helps. :)
