Writing has been my passion since I learn my first alphabet and numbers. It’s a form of expressing myself better. It’s where I pour out my emotions especially when I’m angry. I would feel better after writing what I felt and sometimes I would just tear the paper away. Hahaha! I admit! I’m not good in English. My vocabulary is limited. But it doesn’t hinder me in expressing myself through writing.
I kept a diary before and sometimes would browse through comics for penpals. I had my first pen friend in the year 1990 and I had several writing buddies then for 2-3 years. I lost count of the total numbers of pen friends I had. It could be more or less 30. Exchanging letters had been fun – getting to know different persons and cultures from different places. During summer, I would also exchange letters with some of my classmates. I even went to the extent of sending my name and mailing address to be posted in Funny komiks to increase my penpals. But I’m not sure if it was posted ‘coz I haven’t seen my name in their “Penpal Corner.” Hehe… I also rememberd exchanging letters to our former 6th grade Chinese teacher after she finished her one year term in our school. Yes! It was written in Chinese. I would ask for the help of my parents to check if I have the correct grammar. Hahaha!
As I continued my High School years, I gradually stopped writing to concentrate in my studies. I would only send birthday or christmas cards to selected penpals. I was studying in a chinese school then and combining Chinese, English and Filipino subjects made lesser room for writing letters and diaries, even to my 6th grade Chinese teacher. I lost communication to all my pen friends except for one - my first penpal whom I still communicate through SMS.
I went back to writing diaries when my boyfriend (now my hubby) gave me a beautiful scented pink diary with a Winnie the Pooh cover and a Winnie the Pooh key chain for the keys and a scented pen. Who wouldn’t be inspired to write again for that set of gift. Hehehe… I began writing poems and compositions. I wrote letters again, this time for my boyfriend. 
Now, with the advanced technology, writing has been easier with a personal computer. You can insert images and customize your own colors. You can do anything and everything to share what’s in your mind. Recently, I’m trying to have my own weblog. To rediscover my passion. But not if I have my youngest brother bothering me to let him use the computer. Huhuhu… Hmm… I guess I know what gift to ask from my husband for my next birthday. 
Who says you don’t know how to write?
It is not always the hifalutin words that make a good writer, but rather the skill of having clear and concise ideas flow through simple words.
